Dhodeni

Dhodeni is located in the northern part of Gaindakot, nestled in the hilly region of the Mahabharat Mountain Range. Surrounded by two mountains, the village offers a peaceful and picturesque setting. Home to only a few hundred households, Dhodeni has a small population, as many residents have migrated to the more accessible plains of Gaindakot. The village is renowned for its rich Magar cultural heritage, especially its traditional dance forms.

Traditionally, the people of Dhodeni grew fruits like mangoes, oranges, and bananas, which they would transport down the mountain to sell in the plains. They used hand-woven conical or "V"-shaped baskets (called Doko in Nepali) to carry their produce on long treks to the lower areas. In exchange, they would buy essentials like rice and oil, creating a form of barter trade.

Today, Dhodeni is more accessible by vehicle, eliminating the need for arduous journeys on foot to carry goods.

With improved accessibility and a rising literacy rate, Dhodeni is experiencing gradual development. However, it is crucial to preserve its traditional values and minimize the impact on nature as infrastructure continues to grow.
